Every year that I DM for Gencon, it seems like I don’t get the adventures in time to prepare top notch terrain for my tables. It’s either something I already have lying around, or something I cobble together last minute. However, this year I was given a very early preview of the maps that would be used in the Gencon Delve adventure. Not one to waste an opportunity, I got right to work on making really cool terrain pieces for the tables I would be judging. This is the second of three pieces I made.

Oh, and as always, click any picture to embiggify.
The adventure actually starts in the mausoleum upstairs, and the characters find the secret stairway to the crypt below…
This one has some of the same modular “add a room as the characters approach it” as the last piece. The first room is a throne room with skeletal guardians…
The next room (which is actually attached) is a laboratory. I had a lot of fun with this one. There’s a scrawled note on the table, and the cauldron and blue vessel are also mentioned in the box text.
I have a tutorial article planned explaining exactly how I made these, but every single one of my players missed these doors while sitting right in front of the terrain. They were a bit of work, but totally worth it.
